Job Description
This position serves as Senior Associate Athletics Director/Athletics Financial Officer and as a member of the athletic department's senior leadership team. They will serve as a key advisor to the Vice President/Director of Athletics and the Deputy Athletics Director, Business Development and Revenue Generation. This position provides administrative supervision for the business office, information technology, and business analytics. He/she must possess proven financial and leadership skills with a determination to provide our student-athletes with the resources necessary to compete for championships, to excel in the classroom and to prepare for successful lives after graduation. This position will have significant financial decision-making responsibility and will be expected to be a resource and provide information for all levels of individuals and touch every area within the athletic department. This position also serves as the department's liaison with the University Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. This position is responsible for financial reporting, developing, projecting, and monitoring the department's budget, short and long term, and managing the day-to-day operations of the department. The individual will also play a critical role in long range capital project planning working closely with the capital projects team, fundraising/development, A&E, and facilities management. This is a vital position for the department regarding overall effectiveness, policies, procedures, strategies, and internal controls in addition to ensuring departmental compliance with State, Federal, NCAA, University and SEC governing rules and regulations. In addition, this role is critical for supporting Athletic Department staff, cultivating positive relationships, and the ongoing enhancement of culture.
Essential Functions:
- Serves as a member of the department's senior leadership team, providing counsel to the VP/Director of Athletics and the Deputy AD, Business
- Development and Revenue Generation on financial, operational, and administrative matters
- Oversees the Athletic Department's budget, including development, implementation, monitoring, and forecasting
- Acts as the primary contact between the Department and the University's central budget, finance teams, and finance committees, ensuring alignment between the department's financial operations and University units
- Oversees data and analytics functions to support strategic decision-making and administrative oversight of OU Foundation financial activity
- Manages student-athlete payments, including budgeting, tracking, monitoring, and reporting
- Develops and enhances systems for regular financial reporting and analysis, focusing on data-driven decision-making this includes internal controls and accountability measures
- Monitors and analyzes financial statements, cash flows, and provide analysis for senior leadership review
- Analyzes business trends and data related to new business development opportunities
- Conducts salary benchmarking for vacant positions, review coaches' contracts, and make recommendations to the Director of Athletics and Deputy AD
- Develop and monitor internal controls and accountability measures.
- Serves as a strategic financial partner in capital planning, including financial projections for capital investments such as maintenance, renovations, and new construction
- Assists in setting annual revenue goals and monitor performance across revenue-generating units, establishing KPIs and reporting on performance and variances
- Provides input on financial aspects of contracts with vendors and suppliers
- Oversees assigned department staff and provides mentoring, coaching, training, and professional development
- Performs additional duties as assigned by the Deputy AD and Director of Athletics
- Ensures adherence to NCAA and SEC rules, reporting any violations or suspected violations to compliance staff
Job RequirementsRequired Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree
AND: - 5 years of high-level financial, accounting, business, or related experience
Skills: - Must have proven financial and management skills
- Advanced excel skills with ability to build and manipulate spreadsheets
- Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines
- Detail oriented for accuracy of date of information
- Ability to work independently
- Must be able to supervise staff and communicate directions and expectations effectively
