Job Summary: The Vice President of Technology (VP Technology) is a pivotal senior leadership role responsible for shaping the strategic direction, innovation, and implementation of technology initiatives across the organization. Reporting directly to the President of Griffin Media, the VP Technology spearheads the technology team, devises the technology roadmap, and ensures its alignment with overarching business objectives. This role demands a unique blend of technical prowess, strategic foresight, and exceptional leadership skills to propel digital transformation, leadership of ideal team members, elevate technological capabilities, and drive organizational value with a sense of urgency.

The Vice President of Technology occupies a pivotal role in shaping technology strategy, fostering innovation, and driving execution to bolster the organization's growth, competitiveness, and triumphs. This position necessitates a visionary leader with an unwavering commitment to delivering tangible business outcomes through technology-enabled solutions, all while ensuring robust cybersecurity measures are in place to safeguard organizational assets and data.

Job Responsibilities

  • Technology Strategy and Planning:
    • Develop and articulate the technology vision, strategy, and roadmap in alignment with the organization's overall goals and objectives.
    • Identify emerging technologies, trends, and opportunities to drive innovation and competitive advantage.
    • Collaborate with senior leadership, stakeholders, and business units to prioritize technology investments and initiatives.
  • Team Leadership and Talent Development:
    • Lead, mentor, and empower a dynamic technology team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous growth.
    • Recruit top-tier talent, facilitate seamless onboarding, and provide ongoing professional development opportunities to ensure the team remains adept at executing the technology strategy.
    • Provide coaching, feedback, and professional development opportunities to team members to support their growth and career advancement.
  • Technology Architecture and Infrastructure:
    • Define and implement scalable, resilient, and secure technology architecture, infrastructure, and systems to cater to present and future business needs.
    • Evaluate and select cutting-edge technologies, platforms, and vendors that align with organizational requirements and objectives.
    • Guarantee the robustness, reliability, and availability of technology systems through meticulous design, implementation, and maintenance protocols.
  • Software Development and Engineering:
    • Oversee the conception and delivery of top-tier software solutions and products from strategic partners, leveraging best practices in software engineering and development methodologies.
    • Champion innovation in software development processes, tools, and techniques to enhance efficiency, velocity, and quality of delivery.
    • Collaborate seamlessly with product management, developers, and other stakeholders to translate business imperatives into technically robust solutions.
  • IT Operations and Security:
    • Establish and uphold rigorous IT operations standards, policies, and procedures to uphold operational excellence and regulatory compliance.
    • Implement robust cybersecurity measures, company education, and protocols to safeguard organizational assets, data, and intellectual property.
    • Proactively monitor and mitigate technology risks, vulnerabilities, and incidents through strategic risk management and incident response frameworks.
    • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards, staying abreast of cybersecurity best practices and evolving threats.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:
    • Act as a fervent technology evangelist and advocate, fostering awareness and appreciation of technology capabilities, opportunities, and impact throughout the organization.
    • Disseminate technology strategy, initiatives, and accomplishments to senior leadership, the board of directors, and other key stakeholders.
    • Cultivate and nurture strategic alliances with external technology providers, industry consortia, and academia to foster innovation and collaborative ventures.
  • Production Operations
    • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the production departments at both the Oklahoma City and Tulsa stations.
    • Supervise and collaborate with the Directors of Broadcast Automation to ensure consistent, high-quality output across both locations.
    • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the production teams
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned, including driving an automobile for company business.
Job Schedule: This is a full-time position primarily working 40 hours per week. You may also be called upon at times to fill in other hours and days of the week to help cover vacations, illnesses, or special projects/events. This position may be eligible to work remotely on occasion and at the discretion of the supervisor.

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field; advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MS) preferred.
  • Extensive experience in technology leadership roles, demonstrating a proven track record of driving digital transformation and delivering business value through technology.
  • Profound technical acumen spanning software development, systems architecture, infrastructure, and IT operations.
  • Exceptional leadership and management capabilities, adept at inspiring and motivating multifaceted teams.
  • Strategic mindset with a knack for problem-solving, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Superlative communication and interpersonal skills, coupled with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders across all organizational echelons.
  • Sound judgment, decision-making prowess, and adeptness at navigating complex and dynamic environments.
  • Strong business acumen and an innate grasp of industry trends, competitive landscapes, and market dynamics.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid Oklahoma driver's license and have a driving record acceptable to the company.
  • Ability to perform other job-related duties as assigned.
