Job Description

Located within Facilities Management, this position is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing roofing systems across University of Oklahoma facilities. This position ensures that all roofing work meets university standards, safety regulations, and supports the long-term integrity of campus buildings.

Job Duties:

  • Install, repair, and maintain roofing systems on university buildings using materials such as shingles. metal, tile, and membranes, and utilizing methods such as torch down, flat roof flashing, and cold process overlay.
  • Performs roof inspections for leaks, damage, and deterioration; provides accurate assessments and recommendations, preventative maintenance and emergency repairs to minimize disruption to campus operations.
  • Applies waterproofing and weatherproofing solutions to protect structures.
  • Maintains inventory of stock repair material.
  • Cleans roof surfaces and gutters of debris.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and roofing equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with university safety policies and building codes.
  • Maintains preventive maintenance records of work performed and materials used.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of any site support position, collaborating with other trades and departments to complete projects efficiently.
  • On-call rotation is required and work schedule may change for projects and weather
Job Requirements

Required Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED, AND:
  • 24 months of roofing experience
Skills:
  • Knowledge of roofing methods, materials, and systems
  • Maintaining and repairing roofs
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
Physical/Environmental Requirements:
  • Physical : Sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods. Ability to grasp, reach, twist, bend, and kneel. Ability to lift, push and pull 50 lbs. unassisted. Engage in repetitive motions. Ability to climb ladders and stairs to work on elevated surfaces. Frequent and repeated climbing, bending, stooping, and kneeling. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
  • Environmental : Work in a construction environment. Ability to work on rooftops that exceed ten feet. Exposure to extreme temperature changes and safety hazards. Occasional exposure to extreme heat and cold. Exposure to dirt and dust. Possibility of slippery surfaces. May be designated as an essential position during emergency closures. May be required to remain on campus overnight during weather or other emergencies.
Department Preferences:
  • Valid Oklahoma driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
  • Experience with both commercial and institutional roofing systems.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and building codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
