The Cleveland County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the appointment of Sheriff to complete the unexpired term following a vacancy. This is a leadership position as the chief law enforcement officer of Cleveland County. The appointed Sheriff will serve until the next general election or as otherwise provided by law.
Position Overview
The Sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer of Cleveland County and an elected constitutional officer responsible for preserving the peace, enforcing state laws, and overseeing the administration and operations of the Sheriff's Office, including the county jail. The Sheriff executes all duties prescribed by the Constitution and laws of the State of Oklahoma and provides leadership, direction, and accountability for all divisions within the agency. The Sheriff will uphold the U.S. Constitution and the Oklahoma Constitution.

Qualifications (per Oklahoma law)
Statutory Duties (prescribed by Oklahoma law, including but not limited to Title 19 O.S. 510547, Title 57 for jail operations, and other applicable statutes)
Additional statutory responsibilities include: custody and management of the county jail (19 O.S. 513), powers and duties of peace officers (19 O.S. 516), service of process (19 O.S. 514), appointment and liability for deputies (19 O.S. 547), and all other powers conferred by statute.
Administrative and Operational Responsibilities
Additional operational duties drawn from standard practices and the OSU County Sheriffs Handbook include managing personnel and training (including CLEET compliance), financial accountability and record-keeping, court services and prisoner transport, inter-agency cooperation, election security, and any other duties assigned by the Board of County Commissioners.
