Job Details Under general direction, performs routine and advanced professional and technical work for the OU Health Histology Laboratory. Receives tissue specimens from clinical services and autopsy suite, determines if specimens are labeled as to type of specimens and assigns surgical pathology or autopsy accession number to specimens. Places specimens in proper fixation material. Assists the pathologist in gross dissection of tissue and submission of tissue for histology examination and checks for proper accession number. Processes sections taken for microscopic examination through multiple phases required for preservation and fixation. Embeds and sections tissue and mounts on slides for examination. Performs all routine and special staining techniques of histology sections as well as immunohistochemistry and advanced techniques. Participates in quality assurance and statistical data gathering. Job Requirements Knowledge of the process of all aspects of the histology lab, including tissue processing, microtomy, special staining procedures and immunohistochemistry used for tissue differentiation and diagnosis. Ability to work with precision and care to ensure accuracy and efficiency under periods of pressure and stress. Ability to establish rigid controls to ensure all specimens are properly identified as to source and type. Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
